Conver sations about diversity have become increasingly important, touching all areas of life, including our favorite TV shows from the past. This brings us to the beloved 90s sitcom, Friends, which has come under scrutiny lately for its lack of diversity.

Quinta Brunson, who many know and love from her performance in Abbott Elementary, recently voiced her concerns about Friends. During her hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, Brunson took the opportunity to address the issue in her opening monologue. She highlighted the absence of black friends in the iconic series.

Brunson also shed some light on her own show, Abbott Elementary, which follows a group of teachers in a predominantly black, state-funded elementary school in Philadelphia. When you compare the diversity on Abbott Elementary to Friends, the contrast is quite stark.

In her humorous style, she remarked: “I wanted to be on SNL back in the day but the audition process seemed long – so instead, I just created my own TV show, made sure it became really popular, won a bunch of Emmys, and then got asked to host. So much easier, so much easier.”

The audience resonated with her sentiments as she continued: “It’s a network sitcom like, say, Friends. Except, instead of being about a group of friends, it’s about a group of teachers. Instead of New York, it’s in Philadelphia and instead of not having Black people, it does.”

Despite the playful tone, the issue Brunson raised is serious and has been shared by many, including Martha Kauffman, one of Friends’ creators. Kauffman has expressed embarrassment over the show’s lack of diversity and took steps to atone for it by pledging $4 million to a university in support of African and African-American studies departments.

Reflecting on her journey, Kauffman said: “I’ve learned a lot in the last 20 years,” admitting, “Admitting and accepting guilt is not easy. It’s painful looking at yourself in the mirror. I’m embarrassed that I didn’t know better 25 years ago.”

She continued: “It took me a long time to begin to understand how I internalized systemic racism. I’ve been working really hard to become an ally, an anti-racist. And this seemed to me to be a way that I could participate in the conversation from a white woman’s perspective.”

The discussion around diversity in entertainment is ongoing, but it seems like progress is being made, at least in recognizing past shortcomings and working toward a more inclusive future.

The state funeral of former President Jimmy Carter on January 9, 2025, brought together all five living U.S. presidents—Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Barack Obama, George W. The presence of the five presidents at the funeral sparked widespread reactions online. Many marveled at the rare sight, while some expressed disbelief, wondering if the images had been digitally altered. Carter’s life was celebrated through heartfelt eulogies, with Biden concluding his speech by expressing solace in Carter’s reunion with his beloved wife, Rosalynn, who passed away in November 2023. Carter was remembered as a man of grace, humility, and unyielding dedication to humanity.

After the state funeral, Carter’s remains were taken to his hometown of Plains, Georgia, where he was laid to rest beside Rosalynn in a private interment ceremony. His death on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100, marked the passing of the longest-lived U.S. president. His life and work, including his humanitarian efforts that earned him a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, continue to inspire people worldwide.

Carter’s legacy of service and compassion was echoed in the tributes from his family, with his son Chip calling him a hero who united people through shared beliefs in peace and love. The profound impact of his life, as a leader and humanitarian, will resonate for generations to come.

Beloved country singer Ivana Pino Arellano, known as “La Rancherita de Chanco,” died in a tragic car accident on the M-80 road near Pelluhe, Chile, one day after her 32nd birthday. The car, which flipped over due to wet conditions, left Arellano dead at the scene and her passenger seriously injured.

Pictures of the crash show the badly damaged vehicle lying on its side against a wall, covered by an orange tarp. Arellano, a rising star and mother of four, was celebrated for blending traditional Latin American sounds with modern styles.

The Municipality of Chanco confirmed her death, stating, “Ivana personified the spirit of public service with passion and love.” They added, “Your departure leaves a void impossible to fill, but your legacy will endure through time.

”Her funeral took place on June 17 at Curanipe Parish Cemetery, attended by family, friends, and fans. The Municipality of Chanco expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you, Ivana, for giving us days full of light and peace.”

Every love story is different. Some people spend years looking for the love of their lives. Others are lucky enough to find their forever partners right away.

For James Garner, it was love at first sight when he met Lois Clark.

They had met each other at a friend’s barbeque.
Right then and there, he knew she was the one.

He asked her to dinner and they went out right away.

In the memoir James wrote in 2012, he narrated:

“I fell in love for the first and last time on August 1, 1956, at an Adlai Stevenson for President barbeque. That’s where I met Lois Clarke. It was love at first sight. The thunderbolt. She was as beautiful as she was sweet… It was a barbeque and I ended up in the pool with the children.”

They dated for two weeks.

And after that, they ended up getting married.

The ceremony was done on August 17, 1956, at a courthouse in Beverly Hills.

Almost everyone was against their marriage.

His family was the first people to oppose him.

For them, the two had almost nothing in common. Without any similarity, they’ll likely break up and end up with heartaches.

First, James was a methodist while Lois was Jewish. He was from Oklahoma while she was from Los Angeles. In addition to that, it was James’ second marriage.

James was taller than Lois at six feet and three inches. She loves spending time indoors while he was the outdoorsy type. He considered himself a realist while she was a dreamer.

None of those things mattered to the couple.

He shared:

“None of the naysayers had stopped to consider that Lois and I complemented each other. What they saw as weaknesses, we saw as strengths.”

Together, they built their family.

Lois got married and the couple had a baby girl together.

They named her Gigi.

James eventually adopted Lois’ first child Kim, completing their small but happy family.

The couple’s marriage wasn’t perfect at all.

Like most couples, they had their fair share of arguments and challenges.
In fact, back in 1970, they separated for about three months.

Even though there were rumors of James seeing a guest star on The Rockford’s show, he always denied it.

He said:

“Lois and I were never in serious trouble. Ninety-nine percent of the problem was the pressures of Rockford. It wasn’t us, it was me needing to get away to get my head together.”

Their marriage lasted nearly 60 years.

James died at age 86 of natural causes and they were still together when he passed away.

Even though they’d only seen each other for 14 days before getting married, they were able to overcome the different challenges that came their way.

As Los Angeles continues to battle devastating wildfires, Chrissy Teigen, known for her role in Lip Sync Battle, found herself at the center of online debate after sharing updates on her family’s evacuation from their home. Her posts, featuring moments from the tense situation, evoked both empathy and criticism from followers.

Teigen, along with her husband John Legend, their four children, and their pets, including a bearded dragon, evacuated their Los Angeles residence as flames closed in. On January 8, the 39-year-old model and cookbook author took to Instagram Stories to document the experience, giving followers a glimpse into her family’s efforts to escape the fires.

One of her posts showed Teigen standing in her walk-in closet, visibly distressed, with the caption:

“This is surreal I’m very scared now. Packing.”

Another photo highlighted the logistical challenges of relocating her family, featuring her dogs and the caption:

“4 dogs, 4 kids, and a bearded dragon walk into a hotel.”

These posts quickly sparked divided reactions online. Some followers empathized with her situation, understanding the emotional toll of leaving one’s home behind. Others, however, criticized her updates as insensitive or out of touch, given the gravity of the wildfire crisis.

“Mother Nature always wins. Yeah, she’s rich, but she’s crying about the memories of her home. Some people cry for less because it had sentimental value. Stop laughing at her.”

Over the years, martial artist Chuck Norris has enjoyed enormous popularity. He even became a synonym of strength and attracted millions of fans from all over the world.

He holds black belts in Tang Soo Do, Brazilian jiu jitsu and judo and is the founder of the discipline Chun Kuk Do, an American hybrid martial arts style based on Traditional Taekwondo styles such as Tang Soo Do/Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo.

Besides being a huge part of Hollywood, he is also a family man and a father of five. He and his wife Gena O’Kelley, a former model, have been together for over 22 years. What we love about Norris is that he never misses a chance to remind Gena, as well as all of us, how much she means to him.

Back in 2013, Chuck lost his father to cancer and he’s been fighting the disease in his own way ever since by raising awareness and speaking openly about it. He has served as a proponent of early diagnosis and prevention of cancer and travels the country speaking to organizations about the significance of being examined regularly.

At the same time, Chuck’s everyday life is a struggle because of his wife’s illness.

According to the couple, it all started when Gena went for a routine MRI scan in 2013 and received an injection that is a standard process before someone enters MRI scan. At that same moment, she started experiencing tremors and burning all over her body. Her condition was hard to diagnose as doctors themselves have no idea what could have caused that awful burning sensation.

The biggest issue is that doctors’ were unable to diagnose her and had no idea what could have caused the symptoms which became worse and worse.

“Within hours after the first jab, I felt like my whole body was on fire — as if acid had been passed through it. The burning was isolated at first, but it just kept spreading… I just lay in bed on an IV for five months and had to have round-the-clock nursing care. Chuck slept beside me on the couch and never left. I prayed that I would live to raise my children,” she explained.

“Nobody knows how much time you have left with your loved ones. So go for it, Chuck Norris. Enjoy every moment and make unforgettable memories with your partner. God bless you,” one person wrote.

“My prayers are with you, your wife, and your family.  I’m hoping nothing gets in the way. Godspeed to everybody. Never give up. Please let her be okay, I beg God. Your wife is lucky to be with a man of such moral character. Good luck and take care,” another added.

“Chuck, I just wanted to let you know that I will be praying for you and your gorgeous wife. I hope everything is going well for her and you! Realizing you are the good man you seem to be is amazing,” a third person commented.

As of Chuck’s health, he hasn’t been experiencing major physical issues. Rumors are, however, that back in 2017, he suffered two heart attacks after he collapsed at a casino hotel.

Gena watched in horror as medics hurriedly restarted Chuck’s heart with a defibrillator during the attack which caused his his heart and breathing to stop for several seconds before he was stabilized.

According to the source who shared the news with Radar, “This would have easily killed most men half his age, but Chuck is still at the peak of physical fitness.”

We wish Chuck and Gena end up winners in the fight for her health.

“Sometimes animals come in and you’re just at a loss for words. This is one of those times.” That’s how Harris County Animal Shelter described Radar when the tiny “Ewok-looking” dog came in to their shelter.

His owner dropped him off and asked him to be euthanized, telling them he was 20 years old and should be put down because he was having diarrhea and vomiting.

“It’s pretty easy to see that Radar is terrified, confused and wondering where anything familiar went,” they said after sharing a video of him in their shelter. “So this guy sits and waits all alone. Does he know he doesn’t have much time? Is he desperately searching for his owner?”

“We’re going to be really honest. We don’t know if we can save him,” they continued. “He hasn’t been seen by a vet and maybe they’ll decide that euthanasia is the best choice to end his suffering. Maybe we can get enough donations so a rescue can tag him and let him pass surrounded by dignity and love. We don’t know how much time he has left, but we think he deserves a peaceful passing.”

A short time later, Radar received that lifeline. He came to the attention of Animal Justice League, who were on route the next day to pick him up.

“He spent the night at the shelter confused, worried, and depressed,” Animal Justice League wrote on Facebook. “Thankfully, we were able to pick up this beautiful boy this morning and get him seen by our wonderful vets at Oak Forest Veterinary Hospital.”

The vet discovered that Radar was suffering from more than just old age.

“He has little to no muscle tone in his back legs and walks like a very very old dog. Which by the way, he IS old but he is not 20,” they revealed. “He is running a fever and our vet believes it’s from whatever is wrecking havoc in his gut. His bottom is so tender that he screams when touched near his rectal area or when he attempts to poo. X-rays revealed no fractures or blockages.”

“While we were at the vet office the vet mentioned ‘it looks like he’s searching for his owners…’ and it’s true. He sniffs around and when he doesn’t smell someone he recognizes he picks a person and cuddles as close as possible to them.”

Radar was taken by his foster mom after getting some much needed treatments. “His foster mom will be making him his food and staying him with him to monitor how he is doing and seeing if he improves with the medication and healthy nutritional meals,” they wrote.

And it turns out Radar loves food.

“He LOVES his meals and snack times,” his foster mom wrote. “Currently he’s eating chicken and rice and pumpkin for his meals (bland stuff for his tummy issues) and baby food turkey for snacks.”

“This [photo below] is after he ate all his food and was looking at me for more.”

“I gave him a light bath last night and you can’t tell from all the fur, but he is alarmingly thin. Not just thin, but all bones and ribs sticking out,” she said.

After a few days of rest, Radar is a “teeny bit peppier”. He seems to be feeling better and getting gentle grooms.

A week later, and Radar is behaving even better and his personality is slowly coming out.

“This morning, he got excited while I was making his food and he got so excited and spun around a few times and then ran up to a toy and grabbed it like he was about to start playing with it,” his foster mom wrote.

“Of course, I ruined the moment by cooing at him and trying to get my phone, but it’s the first spark I’ve seen of playfulness in this guy. Everything I’ve seen for the past week has been confusion or fear or survival or kind of…acceptance. But this was the first bit of JOY.”

As for when he might be available for adoption, Animal Justice League wrote, “Please be patient with us in regards to adoption – he is not quite ready, we are still assessing his health needs. When or if we determine he’s ready for adoption, we will post on our page!”

A man has been arrested in connection with one of the multiple wildfires devastating Los Angeles and other areas in California. Among the fires, the Palisades and Eaton fires are the largest, with others named Kenneth, Hurst, and Lidia also causing destruction.

Authorities suspect arson in the Kenneth Fire, the newest blaze, which reportedly began in the San Fernando Valley near Ventura County and the West Hills area. Locals detained a man seen with a blowtorch attempting to ignite trash cans and old Christmas trees until police arrived.At least 10 fatalities have been reported, with thousands of residents forced to evacuate as 10,000 structures have been destroyed. Strong winds continue to fuel the flames, prompting LA Mayor Karen Bass to warn of rapid fire spread. Roads were congested as evacuees fled, with many abandoning cars to escape on foot. Emergency crews utilized bulldozers and summoned off-duty firefighters to combat the blazes.
